Q: What Should I Expect During an Eye Exam?

A: Like most medical exams, you will first go over any relevant medical history as well as any vision issues you have come across. Next, your eye doctor measures your visual acuity to see if you need glasses or contact lenses to improve your vision. You'll be given a numbing drop in your eyes. Then your eye pressure is measured.

Q: How Long Does An Eye Exam Usually Take?

A: Our eye exams range from 20-40 minutes in length. 

Q: What Should I NOT Do Before an Eye Exam?

A: The best things you could not do before an eye exam would be the following: avoid screen time if you can, don't strain your eyes if possible, don't put excess pressure on your eyes, and try to not consume caffeine the morning of the appointment. 

Q: My Vision Suddenly Changed. What Should I Do?

A: If your vision has suddenly changed or even if you think it might have, there is a reason for it. Although there are reasons that do not cause worry, some are sight-threatening. Please contact us if you are experiencing a vision change but especially if you're experiencing any of the following: fogginess, veils, curtains, flashes of light or floaters.

Q: What Are Cataracts?

A: Cataracts are progressive clouding or hazing in the eye’s natural lens. The eye’s lens is a clear part of the eye that helps to focus on light or an image. In a healthy eye, the light passes through the transparent lens to the retina before it changes into nerve signals that are delivered to the brain. 

Q: What is Cataract Surgery and What Does It Entail?

A: At Buffalo Eye Center, we want you to know that we are here to help you get your vision back. We offer both standard and laser cataract surgery (LenSx Laser System) to help relieve your eyes of this condition and restore your vision. During the procedure, our experienced eye doctor will remove the clouded lens inside your eye and replace it with a clear and artificial lens, often known as an intraocular lens implant, or IOL. A protective shield will then be placed over your eye to keep it safe during recovery.
