What is Diabetic Retinopathy?

Diabetic Retinopathy is the most common eye disease for diabetics and is the leading cause of blindness in American adults. Retinal blood vessels in the eye can grow and leak fluid, leading to a loss of vision. If severe enough, minor vision losses may lead to blindness.
Healthy Eye vs Eye with Diabetic Retinopathy

How is Diabetic Retinopathy Detected?

You should have your eyes examined once a year, especially if you have diabetes. Having your eyes dilated allows the doctor to examine the inside of your eyes more closely, allowing the doctor to see warning signs of the disease. Otherwise, you may go without proper treatment for the disease as the warning signs may show up after vision loss has already happened.

Call Our Eye Care Clinic Today to Schedule a Diabetic Retinopathy Treatment!

Laser treatment may be used to prevent vision loss and blindness, but it cannot reverse any damage that has been done to the eye. That is why having a dilated eye exam once a year is so important.
